I'm currently working on growing out my hair after years of pixie cuts and curly bobs. Since I have yet to find an affordable and curly-hair-friendly salon in Chicago, I had to wait until I got home for the summer to get a good haircut. So, last month Mom took me to a neighborhood salon where I met my new hair friend, Brian, who gave me the cut and hair lesson I had long been waiting for to get me on the right track for growing out my hair.
However, Mom was not willing to spend the same amount of $ on a post 6 week trim (I don't blame her), so when the time came around she took me to the hair school for my much needed trim.
I'll admit, I was hesitant. According to Brian, my hair had been quite messed up by past cheap cuts, and I was worried the $8 trim would set me back on my goal of long hair. I could NOT take another curly bob on my head.
I made sure to be very specific with KiKi, the soon-to-be-graduated hair student who looked EXACTLY like the beloved Amy Winehouse. (No joke. I should've gotten a picture.) As you can see, she even straightened it too, which I love. I'm all for being au naturale, but straight hair is so fun and light and flippy and flirty and gives me that hint of 60s vibe. Long story short, I walked out loving my new 'do (check out the cool way she framed my bangs!).
I'm still wearing it straight as of today, so we'll see if it's just as wonderful curly!

ReplyDeletei am so jealous!
i heard that it is beautiful over there but still. the pictures are just :OOO
what are some hair growing tips?? share share~
you look a lot like your grampa!
Thank, Jin. It's even more beautiful in person!!
DeleteWell, he told me a lot about curly hair and growing it out. But don't wait for forever to get it cut because after awhile it stops growing altogether. I waited for months and that's why my hair wasn't growing.
Your hair looks so, so good, Nay! It fits you so well! And how weird that your hairdresser looks like Amy!
ReplyDeleteI'm having the same hair issues- I can't find ANYONE good enough to cut my hair the way I want (I, too, don't like to spend a ton of $ for a haircut). No one understands me when I describe the hair cut I want and so I hate my hair so much right now that I tend to wear it up 95% of the time.
Thank you! It was crazy. I couldn't stop staring at her.
DeleteYou should definitely spend money on a good cut at least once. They should be able to fix it for you. How do you want your hair?
Weird!
DeleteI think I will soon. But I'm a little paranoid now. I just want a rather simple cut with good side bangs and layers that don't look choppy or thick.
Why can't anyone do that? That seems like an easy cut!
DeleteI know!!
DeleteOh, I love the straight hair! Literally so cute. Too bad flat ironing your hair is such a pain. Also, those pictures. North Carolina= soooooo beautiful. Your grandparents' backyard looks magical.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I know. But to me it's worth it because I'm always fussing with my hair when it's curly.
DeleteThe whole place is magical.
You look so sweet! Love the polka dot shorts with your cheery t-shirt. The trim turned out amazing, btw (its always such a gamble going in for a "trim" most of the time they just lop off all of your hairs!)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Ashley! Yeah, sometimes a trim can be worse than going in for a full on haircut!
DeleteI really appreciate you taking the time to view and comment on my blog. You're the first from those that I read regularly (and love, btw). It's very exciting for me!
